The written exam in STK4011/9011 takes place Tuesday 8 December 9-13. See here for details.

Permitted aids at the written exam are the List of formulas for STK1100 and STK1110 and the Summary of results for STK4011/9011. Note that you have to bring your own copies of these aids at the exam and that you are not allowed to write anything in them.

Note that only the students who have handed in the home exam are allowed to take the written exam.

As informed earlier, the exams for STK4011 and for STK9011 will consist of a home exam ("project paper") followed by a written exam. The problems for the home exam will be based on the material that has been lectured in August-October. The problems will be handed out November 5th and have deadline November 19th.  The written exam takes place  December 8th, see here for details.

The plan for the lectures Thursday September 24th is as follows:

  • Point estimator  (section 7.1)
  • Method of moments (section 7.2.1, pages 312-313)
  • Maximum likelihood (section 7.2.2, pages 315-320)
  • Bayes estimators (section 7.2.3, pages 330-332)
  • Mean squared error (section 7.3.1, pages 330-332)
  • Best unbiased estimators (section 7.3.2, pages 334- 339)

Note that much of the material in sections 7.2.1, 7.2.2 and 7.3.1 should be known from earlier courses and will not be covered at the lectures

  • Order statistics (section 5.4: pages 226-231)

  • Discussion of exercises  2.1, 2.6 2.30 and 2.33 (the exercises to chapter 3 are postponed to next week).
  • Uniform and beta distributions (sec 3.3).
  • Exponential family of distributions (sec 3.4).

The courses STK4011 (for master's students) and STK9011 (for PhD-students) have joint lectures and exercises.

The teaching takes place Thursdays from 12.15 to 15.00 in room 1036 at the 10th floor of Niels Henrik Abel's house. The teaching starts Thursday 20 August. Then an introduction to the course will be given. Further the distributions in Sections 3.2 and 3.3 will be discussed briefly, and the location and scale families of distributions (Section 3.5) will be introduced. Later weeks the three hours of teaching will be a mixture of lectures and exercises.
