SOS9001 ¨C Dissertation seminar: Introduction

Course content

First part of a two-part thesis seminar. Held during the first semester of the PhD program.

Learning outcome

Doctoral research fellows submit project outlines before the course starts and present their projects to other doctoral research fellows and heads of research/PhD coordinators at the department. The choice of genre for the thesis - monograph or article-based - will be covered.

Admission to the course

PhD candidates at the Department of Sociology and Human Geography must register via StudentWeb. The registration deadline is four weeks before the course starts in each semester.

Formal prerequisite knowledge

Participants must be enrolled on the PhD program in Sociology.

Teaching

Teaching takes place over one day during the semester. The following points will be covered:

1. Study plan for the PhD program

2 Genre: articles or monograph

3. Various details and questions from the doctoral research fellows

4. Introduction of the projects and discussion

Examination

In order to pass the seminar, doctoral research fellows must submit a project outline two weeks before the seminar, and present this to the other participants.

Attendance combined with the oral and written presentations will form the basis for determining whether the doctoral research fellow has passed the seminar. This applies to all parts of the thesis seminar.

Examination support material

All exam support materials are allowed during this exam. Generating all or part of the exam answer using AI tools such as Chat GPT or similar is not allowed.
