Safety representative scheme at UiO

Principles

  • All HSE issues are raised with the line manager on the same level.
  • The employer is responsible for ensuring that an election is held in accordance with common procedures  and publishing who is appointed the safety representative.
  • A safety representative should not have other functions that may impede fulfilment of their role as the elected representative of staff for working environment issues.

Safety representative (VO)

  • shall keep the staff in their safety zone kept informed about their work.
  • must have the opportunity to discuss current issues with the senior, local senior and head safety representatives
  • should have regular meetings with the manager of their safety zone.

Senior safety representative / Local senior safety representative

  • shall coordinate the activities of safety representatives in their safety zone and inform, guide and support them in their work.
  • should have regular meetings with the safety representatives in each safety zone. Recommended frequency of meetings: monthly.
  • must be members of the local working environment committee (LAMU) where they exist and coincide with the senior safety representative's safety zone.
  • should have regular meetings with the manager of their safety zone. Recommended frequency of meetings: monthly.
  • have the opportunity to attend the ordinary Information, Discussion and Negotiation meetings (IDF) in the faculties, the Management and Support Units, Estate Department, the museums and the University Library as observers with the right to speak.

The Head Safety Representative (HVO)

  • shall coordinate the activities of safety representatives and inform, guide and support them in their work.
  • should have regular meetings with the local senior safety representative
  • should be a member of the Working Environment Committee (AMU) and its Executive Committee (AU).
  • have the opportunity to attend as an observer with the right to speak during discussions and negotiation of Main Agreement matters, as referred to in the Working Environment Act.
  • have regular meetings with the University Director.
  • should have regular meetings with the Unit for HSE and Occupational Health Unit (BHT).
  • have appraisal interviews with the HR Director.

Deputy safety representative

Deputy safety representatives have the same rights as safety representatives when acting as deputy. Safety representatives should regularly inform their deputies of their work.
