Mandate for the Science Ombud at UiO

In 2018 The University Board passed a decision to create the position of The Science Ombud as part of the organisation of research ethics work at the University of Oslo. A separate mandate has been set for the task.

The mandate emphasises that the Science Ombud shall provide guidance and advice to academic staff members who are in a problematic ethical situation pertaining to research. The Science Ombud shall be independent, impartial and neutral and shall process inquiries and matters in confidence.

Separate services for the Institute of Clinical Medicine

Academic staff members at the Institute of Clinical Medicine under The Faculty of Medicine are not covered by the services of The Scientific Ombud.

A cooperation agreement has been entered into between The University of Oslo and the University Hospitals entailing that the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital have created a separate Committee for the Investigation of Research Misconduct.

They will also appoint a separate Science Ombud.
