Frequently asked questions

Why was an income statement issued from UiO?

  • An annual statement of income and deducted tax is produced for everyone who received pay or reimbursements from UiO during the preceding year.
  • Note that holiday pay is taxable, even if no tax has been deducted by the employer.
  • Holiday pay is therefore included in the annual income statement.
Since holiday pay in Norway is usually paid the year following the year the payment was made, it may be that a salary statement has been issued for a year you did not actually perform any work for UiO.
  • UiO is sometimes responsible for payments financed by others. The income statement is always issued by the company which makes the payment.

Why is the amount listed as income, more than what I earned during the year?

Salary or fees are declared for the year in which the payment was made, not when the work was performed.

Pay for work carried out before 1 January of the income year can therefore be included as income. For example, this applies when payment is made retroactively for a salary rise the previous year.

What is "Taxable part of certain types of insurance - Benefit" ?

As part of their working conditions, all government employees have a life insurance in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. No premium is paid for this insurance, but it has a tax assessment value that must be declared.

Why has tax been deducted even though I have only submitted travel expenses invoices?

Unspecified reimbursements for per-diem food and kilometers travelled will be taxable om parts of the amount. The same applies to the "compensation allowance" for travel abroad.

How can I check item 2.1.1 Income on my tax return?

Post 2.1.1 Annual income in the tax return from the Tax Office consists of several amounts in the Annual Income Statement. It is calculated thus:

+ Fixed salary
+ Vacation money (Holiday pay)
+ Overtime (if any)
+ Other salary items
-  Wage deduction due to holiday
= Salary amount from Universitetet i Oslo under post 2.1.1
