UiO's committee for Scholars at Risk

The committee for Scholars at Risk at UiO was established in 2009. Current members have been appointed for the period 2022-24. The committee follows up on UiO's involvement in the Scholars at Risk network.

Mandate

1. The SAR committee is an advisory committee for the University Director in matters
relating to UiO's collaboration with the Scholars at Risk network.

2. The committee shall coordinate UiO's activities in connection with the University of Oslo's     membership in Scholars at Risk, including:

  • Assess potential SAR candidates to be hosted at UiO as well as recruit and follow up host units.
  • Initiate and coordinate any other activities at UiO related to Scholars at Risk.
  • Seek cooperation with other organizations that can support the university's work for academic freedom and cooperation with Scholars at Risk.

The SAR committee shall have the following composition:

  • A representative from the Norwegian Center for Human Rights

  • Two representatives from the other scientific staff at UiO

  • A student representative appointed by the Student Parliament (for one year at a time)

UiO's SAR coordinator is the committee's secretary. The appointment is valid for two years, except for the student. See current composition.

    Working method

All committee members are registered on Scholars at Risk's internal communication channels, which also provide access to sensitive information that must be treated confidentially. The committee itself chooses suitable methods of cooperation, but at least one meeting must be held per year.

    Right of adoption

Decisions can be made if the majority of the representatives in the SAR committee give their approval.

    Secretariat

The Department of Research and Innovation Administration is the secretariat for the SAR committee.

    Criteria for Prioritizing Candidates

The committee has determined criteria for prioritizing among candidates to be hosted at UiO through Scholars at Risk and the Scholar Rescue Fund.
