Admission to study programmes for applicants residing in Norway

The following procedures apply for applicants residing in Norway, with secondary education from non-Nordic countries.

The application procedures for master's degree programmes and for bachelor's degree programmes differ from each other:

Master's degree programmes (1 1/2 - 2 years)

If you wish to apply for Master's degree programmes, please consult the programme description of each programme for information about the application deadlines and requirements.

Bachelor's degree programmes

Applicants who have a permanent or renewable residence permit (e.g. work or family reunification) and au pairs are considered residing applicants.

If you wish to apply for bachelor's degree programmes, you must submit an application through Samordna opptak, the Norwegian Universities and Colleges Admission Service (NUCAS).

All bachelor's degree programmes at the University of Oslo are taught in Norwegian.

Application deadline

The NUCAS application deadline for applicants with secondary education from non-Nordic countries is 15 April (2023).

Applicants from non-EU countries who need a residence permit in order to study in Norway may apply for early admission (NUCAS - in Norwegian only). The NUCAS application deadline for early admission is 1 March. In order to apply for early admission, you must fulfil all the basic admission requirements by 1 March.

Application requirements

In order to be qualified for admission, applicants must fulfil the requirements for Higher Education Entrance Qualification (generell studiekompetanse).
