About the programme

This programme option combines knowledge about information security with understanding of cyber-physical systems. This gives you the opportunity to view security holistically and to understand how challenges to security can affect both information technology and the physical world.

In cyber-physical systems, information and communication technology is joined with physical units. This allows us to automatize and control many different areas within everything from production to transport, health and energy. However, cyber-physical systems are used not only in self-driving cars, smart networks for measuring and controlling electrical power, intelligent factories and automatic health systems – they are also used in refrigerators that remind you to buy more milk and thermostats you can control through an app on your phone. When every gadget is online, security is of the essence.

Understanding how cyber-physical systems work and how they may be vulnerable enables us to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities in these systems. This is essential if we are to develop robust and secure solutions.

Real-world cases and practical experience

Here you will gain insight into challenges posed by hacking, cyber-attacks and protection of different sectors, like energy, health and transport. Through lab work and practical experience you will be able to apply theory to real-world cases. You get the opportunity to work with realistic challenges and projects in cooperation with companies and research groups. This gives you valuable practical experience that is in high demand in today’s job market.

Digitalization presents great opportunities for economic growth in the years ahead but also creates new threats and render businesses vulnerable to computer attacks. Student life

Before the classes start in August, we welcome you to three days of mandatory teaching and a variety of social events.
