Knowledge

You will

  • know and understand the process of life science innovation and entrepreneurship enabling you to recognize user needs that may be commercially viable (product-market fit)
  • demonstrate an understanding of the opportunities of innovation and entrepreneurship in life science research
  • know how to commercialize new life science discoveries to solve urgent global challenges such as human health, climate change and nature destruction
  • know how to transform ideas into prototypes of products, services, or processes
  • learn how Tech Transfer Offices and other innovation support actors/clusters can guide and facilitate the commercialization process
  • be able to discuss and argue for different types of intellectual property/intellectual assets and understand different patent strategies
  • recognize common pitfalls and learn how to reduce risk in the development of a business venture

You can

  • use appropriate terminology to communicate a value proposition that describes the need, approach, benefit and competition for an identified asset
  • use design thinking tools to address user needs
  • discover and identify promising assets from research projects or ideas and estimate their commercial potential
  • use business tools such as Business Model Canvas
  • identify and apply the main steps and requirements to test the potential of a developed business idea
  • develop a business idea into a complete business plan
  • communicate/pitch a business plan to potential investors
