Career prospects

The programme option is the only one of its kind in Norway, and is built up around highly sought-after skills that qualify for a number of interesting jobs in

  • finance
  • insurance
  • technological industry
  • research institutions and
  • consultancy agencies.

Public administration and the learning institutions also need people with this academic background.

With an education in finance, insurance and risk you will be able to obtain a job in e.g. the process industry or large oil companies.

Insurance companies and financial industry are also in need of someone with theoretical ballast combined with the practical ability to solve complex problems. The energy sector is also a potential work place.

All three specializations qualify for further PhD studies. Students who wish to pursue a PhD in mathematical finance, are recommended to take MAT4500 - Topology as one of the optional courses in the Master’s degree. This is not a requirement, but can be an asset towards pursuing a career in research.
