LAT2403 – Roman Historiographers

Course content
We read 60-75 pages from Roman historiographers. In addition you will be expected to read supplementary literature for in-dept-study and/or orientation.
Learning outcome
After examination you should:
- be able to translate course texts to Norwegian (English)
- have full command of the central vocabulary in the texts
- be able to discuss rhetorical and stylistical aspects of the texts
- be able to interpret the texts with an eye to historical, cultural or other aspects
Admission

Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
Knowledge of grammar and Latin texts equivalent to LAT1100 - Innf?ring i latin
Recommended previous knowledge
Knowledge of grammar equivalent to LAT1105 - Latinsk grammatikk I. We strongly recommend that you take 40 ECTS in Latin at the basic level before moving on to a more advanced Level.
Teaching
10 double sessions of seminars common with LAT4402 – Roman History (discontinued). We expect you to meet prepared for the seminars and participate actively.
In order for you to be allowed to submit the final paper, the following compulsory tuition activity must be approved by the teacher:
- Draft of the seminar paper. You submit your draft in Canvas.
The compulsory activity is valid only the semester in which it has been approved.
Examination
Seminar paper (10 pages).
When you write a seminar paper, you are entitled to receive individual tutoring. The obligatory draft of the semester paper forms the basis for this tutoring. An exact deadline for handing in the draft will be given by the teacher during the seminar.
In order for you to qualify for the final examination, all compulsory tuition activities must be approved by the teacher.

Use of sources and citation
You should familiarize yourself with the rules that apply to the use of sources and citations. If you violate the rules, you may be suspected of cheating/attempted cheating.
Language of examination
You may submit your response in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English. If you would prefer to have the exam text in English, you may apply to the course administrators.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.

Withdrawal from an examination
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
