Course content

We will read ca. 100 pages of text drawn from different Roman historians, supplemented by secondary literature.

Learning outcome

After you have completed the course you will be able to:
? translate the texts included in the syllabus and interpret them.
? comment on linguistic and stylistic features in these texts.
? explore historical, cultural or other aspects of these texts by applying your critical and research skills.

Admission

Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.

Students enrolled in other Master's Degree Programmes can, on application, be admitted to the course if this is cleared by their own study programme.

You must be admitted to Classical Studies (master's two years).

Prerequisites

Formal prerequisite knowledge

Specialization (80 ECTS credits) in Latin.

Teaching

Teaching consists of seminars (10 double hours) common with LAT2403 – Roman Historiographers

We expect you to prepare for and to participate actively in the seminars.

To be able to take the exam you must have completed successfully the following compulsory tuition activity:

The compulsory activity is valid only the semester in which it has been approved.

Examination

Seminar paper (10 pages).

When you write a seminar paper, you are entitled to receive individual tutoring. The obligatory draft of the seminar paper forms the basis for this tutoring. An exact deadline for handing in the draft will be given by the teacher during the seminar.

In order for you to qualify for the final examination, all compulsory tuition activities must be approved by the teacher.

Use of sources and citation

You should familiarize yourself with the rules that apply to the use of sources and citations. If you violate the rules, you may be suspected of cheating/attempted cheating.

Language of examination

You may write your examination paper in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.

Grading scale

Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.

Withdrawal from an examination

It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
