Course content
This course is a continuation of SAN1110 – Sanskrit 1 (discontinued): we will finish the lessons given in Maurer's grammar.
Basic knowledge of the language and its grammar is deepened through reading text passages from the Pa?catantra, Hitopadesa, Mahabharata, Sukasaptati, etc.
Following this course, students will take SAN2130 – Sanskrit 3+4 (discontinued) for further specialization.
Learning outcome
In Sanskrit 2 students will be made familiar with the independent reading of small text passages, and the use of standard dictionaries and other reference works.
Moreover, through the independent reading of assigned chapters and articles, they will also become familiar with some main genres of Sanskrit literatures.

Teaching
The course consists of 6 hours of seminars per week. The study of Sanskrit requires determination and discipline.
Students must be willing to read and study large parts of the curriculum on their own.
During the semester, students will hand in 2 written assignments.
These must be passed in order to be permitted to take the final exam.
Examination
Before students can take the examination, they must submit two assignments approved by the course instructor.

The exam consists of 1 written test (4 hours). Translation of 2 texts, one extracted from the curriculum, the other new to the students. Questions related to the text from the curriculum will be asked.
Use of sources and citation
You should familiarize yourself with the rules that apply to the use of sources and citations. If you violate the rules, you may be suspected of cheating/attempted cheating.
Examination support material
The use of a dictionary/glossary is permitted, as well as Stenzler's grammar.
Language of examination
The examination text is given in English, and you submit your response in English.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.

Withdrawal from an examination
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.

Evaluation
The course is subject to continuous evaluation. At regular intervals we also ask students to participate in a more comprehensive evaluation.
