MCT4021 – Physical-Virtual Communication and Music 1

Course content

The aim of this course is to learn to operate and maintain the Portal, the audio-visual communication platform connecting the two campuses in Trondheim and Oslo. The Portal constitutes a laboratory for network based collaboration and communication.
 

Learning outcome

Knowledge

Having completed the course the student  

  • is familiar with the technical design of advanced audio-visual communication platforms
  • knows about the theoretical and practical limitations of different audiovisual networking systems and how to work around some of these limitations

Skills

Having completed the course the student

  • can set up and use different types of technologies for physical-virtual communication, including audio/video equipment, networking technologies, and unified communication and collaboration platforms.
  • can arrange a public event in the Portal, including pre-event planning and information, and technical assistance and audience communication during the event.
  • can document sessions of audio-visual communication and collaboration.

Prerequisites

Formal prerequisite knowledge

Admission to the master's programme Music, Communication and Technology.

Teaching

The course will start with an intensive workshop to introduce the students to the technological setup. The students will then be assigned to groups that will be responsible for the following areas each week:

  • System operation, maintenance and support.
  • Planning and running a public event in the Portal.
  • Documentation of system operation and public events.

Language of examination

The examination text is given in English, and you submit your response in English.

Withdrawal from an examination

A term paper or equivalent that is passed may not be resubmitted in revised form.

If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline, this will be counted as an examination attempt.

Evaluation

The course is subject to continuous evaluation. At regular intervals we also ask students to participate in a more comprehensive evaluation.
