FRM2410 – Drug formulation and the use of drugs

Course content

Main objective: The students shall gain competence in drug formulation and in the use of drugs by combining knowledge from most of the pharmaceutical disciplines.

Structure: The course consists of a general part that will be taught during a few weeks that are spread throughout the course. In addition, there is a special part where drug formulation and the use of drugs are taught in connection to diseases in various organ systems. Detailed learning goals of the different parts of the course are divided into goals of knowledge, goals of practical performance and goals related to attitudes.

Learning outcome

During this course you will learn about formulation of drugs, pharmacokinetics, clinical pharmacology, drug monitoring, social pharmacy (including drug economics), pharmacognosy and statistics.

Teaching

There are lectures, group work, laboratory classes and PBL-lectures.

Examination

The students collect the written reports that they have been working with during the course to a portfolio. The portfolio must be complete and accepted before the students are allowed to attend the final exams.

Examination semester: Spring and autumn. An exam in pharmaceutics and one interdisciplinary exam will be held every autumn. A second and final interdisciplinary exam will be held every spring. The final grade from this course is based on the results obtained from these tree exams.

Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.
