IN2031 – Project in Programming
Course description
Course content
The core of the subject is a major programming task to be solved in small groups.Through the assignment, you will get practical training in programming and gain experience with how object-oriented thinking and mechanisms can be extra useful in the development of larger programs. Through the project, you will also get an insight into domain-specific languages ??and learn, for example, how a compiler or interpreter works.
Learning outcome
After finishing the course you will be able to:
- write larger programs divided into sensible modules
- make programs more transparent by using object orientation
- explain the purpose of domain-specific languages
- know how to develop a domain-specific language
- read, understand and customize program code written by others
- find and correct errors in both your own and in others programs

Special admission requirements
In addition to fulfilling the Higher Education Entrance Qualification, applicants have to meet the following special admission requirements:
- Mathematics R1 or Mathematics (S1+S2)
The special admission requirements may also be covered by equivalent studies from Norwegian upper secondary school or by other equivalent studies. Read more about special admission requirements (in Norwegian).
Formal prerequisite knowledge
The course presuppose IN1010 – Object-oriented Programming/INF1010 - Object oriented programming (continued).
Overlapping courses
- 10 credits overlap with IN2030 – Project in Programming (continued).
Teaching
2 hours of lectures and 2 hours of exercises each week. Several mandatory problems must be completed during the course. Rules for mandatory assignments.
Examination
Submission of project based on the mandatory assignments. The students may be selected for oral examination based on the project. Mandatory assignments, project and the potential oral exam must all be passed.
It will also be counted as one of?your three?attempts to sit the exam for this course, if you sit the exam for one of the following courses:?IN2030 – Project in Programming (continued), INF2100 – Programming project (continued)
Language of examination
You may write your examination paper in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a pass/fail scale. Read more about the grading system.
Resit an examination
Students who can document a valid reason for absence from the regular examination are offered a postponed examination at the beginning of the next semester.
Re-scheduled examinations are not offered to students who withdraw during, or did not pass the original examination.
