INF5061 – Multimedia Networking using Network Processor Cards

Course content
The course gives an introduction to network processors including architecture and how such devices can be used in a system. Additionally, the course looks at how to program Intel IXP network processors and how to use these in a distributed multimedia system. An important part of the course is lab-assignments where the students program the Intel IXP network processor.
Learning outcome
The students should get knowledge in network processor architectures and practical experience in development of programs on the Intel IXP network processor.

Examination
There are three mandatory lab project deliveries and one mandatory paper presentation. The first lab project delivery must be passed before the student can proceed to the two other (graded) mandatory lab projects, and the mandatory paper presentation must be passed before going up to the final exam. Grades (A-F) will be given based on the two graded lab project assignments (counting 15% and 35%) and an oral exam at the end of the course (counting 50%).
