Course content
The course gives an introduction to more advanced topics in functional analysis and measure theory. Among the topics covered are: more Banach space theory (including the Banach-Steinhaus theorem, the open mapping theorem, the closed graph theorem and the Hahn-Banach theorem); more measure and integration theory (including product measures, Tonelli?s and Fubini?s theorems, signed measures, complex measures, Hahn?s, Jordan?s and Radon-Nikodym?s theorems, conditional expectations, L^p /L^q-duality and Riesz? representation theorem, modes of convergence for measurable functions) Fourier-transform.
Learning outcome
The course presents fundamental results of functional analysis and measure theory, and is the basis for further work in partial differential equations, stochastic analysis, and operator algebras. The students will learn to work with abstract measure spaces and with linear operators between infinite dimensional spaces.

Teaching
4 hours of lectures/exercises per week throughout the semester.
Upon the attendance of three or fewer students, the lecturer may, in conjunction with the Head of Teaching, change the course to self-study with supervision.
Examination
Final written exam or final oral exam, which counts 100 % towards the final grade.
The form of examination will be announced by the lecturer by 1 October/1 March for the autumn semester and the spring semester respectively.
This course has 1 mandatory assignment that must be approved before you can participate in the final exam.

Language of examination
Courses taught in English will only offer the exam paper in English. You may submit your response in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.
