Absence from teaching sessions and/or compulsory activities for courses in pedagogy

In accordance with UIO’s guidelines, courses should be held on campus as far as physically possible. Illness in the student group/class will not affect where teaching takes place.

If you become ill during an exam, you must follow UIO’s rules for reporting your absence. This also applies to home exams and assignments.

What do you have to do if you can’t attend a class or hand in a mandatory assignment by the deadline?

  • Teaching without attendance requirements: You do not need to give notice of absence.
  • Teaching with attendance requirements: You must apply for an approved absence if you fall behind the stated attendance percentage for the course.
  • Compulsory activity that is included in the teaching: You must apply for an approved absence.
  • Written submission of a mandatory assignment: If you cannot submit by the deadline, you must apply for an approved absence/postponed deadline. The application must be documented.

If you have a long period/long periods of absence(s), the course supervisor can assess whether you should be given additional assignments.

Note: All courses in the Master’s in Education program require 80% attendance. If absence from teaching exceeds 20% (approved absence percentage for courses having 80% mandatory attendance), you will be given additional assignments.

This is how you apply for an approved absence:

Complete the online application form and upload the required documentation.

What is a valid reason for absence/postponed deadline?
