PED4404 – Learning cultures, leadership and participation in working life

Course content

The course focuses on learning cultures, leadership and participation in work life contexts. Theories are introduced to conceptualize the tensions and dynamics that may arise as particular learning cultures and leadership styles are implemented as part of strategic management. The potential for participation and learning among individuals and groups are considered in this context and tied to current developments of open innovation and distributed learning cultures.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

Be able to

  • Account for theories and ways of conceptualising learning cultures, leadership and participation in work life contexts.
  • Discuss and problematise current and anticipated trends related to learning cultures, leadership and participation in work life contexts.

  • Identify and discuss competing approaches to a chosen problem in the research field.
  • Choose a theoretical and conceptual framework and argue for its relevance in relation to a chosen problem.

  • Review articles in the research field
  • Reason, argue and discuss in an academic genre.

Admission to the course

The course is a compulsory part of the specialization "Kunnskapsutvikling og l?ring i arbeidslivet" in the Master's programme "Pedagogikk" and is reserved for students admitted to this programme.

Qualified exchange students may be admitted if there is capacity.

It is recommended that you have completed the following courses?PED4401, PED4011, PED4402, PED4403, PED4481?

or that you have acquired equivalent knowledge through other studies/courses.

Teaching

In the course different pedagogical methods are used, such as

  • Lectures/seminars.
  • Net based activities.
  • Group discussions in connection with assignments.

You are expected to take active part in the different activities.

Compulsory components:

1. Participation:

  • Participation in the first lecture is compulsory.
  • Participation in the writing workshop is compulsory.

2. Individual work:

  • A report of 5-6 pages (excluding references) focusing on learning cultures, leadership and/or participation.

Examination

Individual course paper.

Specifications are published at the beginning of the course. The paper must be submitted within a given date at the end of the course.

All compulsory components must be approved before you may submit the exam.

Language of examination

The assignment requirements will be given in English. You may write your exam paper in English or in one of the Scandinavian languages.

Grading scale

The Individual course paper is the basis for grades.

Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.

The exam is graded by wo examiners.

Resit an examination

Compulsory components that have been approved are valid for two years. If you fail the exam, you may retake it the next time the course is offered without retaking the compulsory components.

If your compulsory components are not approved, you must retake the whole course in order to take the exam.
