Course content

UV9040A is organized by the research groups,?FREMO and LEA, at the Faculty of Educational Sciences.

The intention of the research seminar is to provide for closer follow-up of the PhD fellows throughout the first two years, as well as to facilitate academic discussions and collaboration.

Participation in the research seminar is a mandatory part of the PhD fellows’ research education, and takes place during the first two years of the fellowship period.

The obligatory elements in the research seminar:

  1. Candidates must attend at least seven sessions of the research seminar.
  2. During the first semester, the candidates present their project plans, as well as actively discuss and assess one another’s project plans.
  3. During the seminar, candidates must also prepare a formal response to at least one project plan from a fellow candidate.
  4. Candidates must also complete a midway assessment of their project.

The candidate receives credit for the research seminar upon completion of the midway assessment. This assessment is an integral part of the seminar session, but may also be conducted outside the scope of this. In accordance with current practice, the research education (PhD) coordinator collaborates in the organization and completion of the?midway assessment.

The project presentation during the first semester is a key element of the research seminar. During these project presentations, fellows are able to gain valuable feedback to assist them in revising and focusing the project proposals that gained them admittance to the PhD programme. The seminar may also address other relevant academic topics and more generic themes such as conference presentations/poster presentations.

The supervisor meets when the candidate presents his/her project plan.
