UV9325 – Assessment: instrument development, psychometrics and evidence-based practice
Course content
This course will be an introduction to screening and measurement in education, instrument development, diagnostic performance and psychometrics. The aim of the course is to provide students, researchers and professionals with the skills to enhance and develop their knowledge in assessment in educational and social sciences. Students will familiarize themselves with different types of assessments and its purposes in education. They will learn about the psychometric properties of assessments and diagnostic performance of screening, and how to make evidence-based selections in measurement.

Admission
PhD candidates at the Faculty of Educational Sciences will be given priority, but it is also possible for others to apply for the course. As a minimum requirement, all participants must hold at least a Master's degree and have basic knowledge of statistical analyses.

Teaching
The course covers 18 hours (distributed over 3 days à 6 hours). Mandatory participation is 80%. The teaching will be a combination of lectures and seminars.

Examination
A paper (3000 – 4500 words) in which the candidate describes the reliability and validity of one or more measures used in his/her own research or PhD. Apply knowledge from presentations.
1 credit point for course participation, 80% attendance is required.
3 credit points for course participation and submitted paper. 80% attendance is required.
