Fieldwork

Students admitted to the master’s degree programme in human geography can apply to the Department of Sociology and Human Geography for reimbursement of travel cost in relation to fieldwork in Norway or abroad.
 

The application/project description must contain:


1. Research question
2. Method
3. Theory 
4. Budget
5. Schedule of work
6. Name of supervisor
7. Reference list

The project description must not exceed 8 pages (in total), and must be submitted with the application.

For your security

It is important that you complete UiO’s self-declaration form for studies abroad (Egenerkl?ring om studieopphold i utlandet) so that we can provide help if necessary when you are abroad. Funding will not be given by the Department unless the statement has been submitted.

 

Important information

Fieldwork must be carried out in a professional manner and with maximum personal safety.

The following requirements apply for approval of fieldwork destinations:

  • The destination must be relevant to the research question studied.
  • The destination must not be located in a region or country that the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Norwegian Institute of Public Health have advised against travelling to. See the Ministry’s web page on travel advice.
  • Students are obliged to read UiO’s advice on safety when abroad and the brochure Safety abroad.
