Learning outcomes

In the master's programme in nuclear science, you learn about the properties of atomic nuclei, and how these properties can be used for technological purposes. Your master's thesis will be a research project related to the development of nuclear technology or in basic nuclear research.

After you have completed a master's degree in nuclear science, you have attained broad, solid knowledge and skills in the subject, and general competence.

Knowledge

  • You have solid knowledge of theories, models, and experimental and numerical methods within nuclear science, and in particular within your field of specialization.
  • You have developed a professional intuition and a general understanding that enables you to define and solve problems.
  • You are familiar with basic principles in radiation protection, and can apply these.

Skills

  • You can use the relevant analytical, numerical, and experimental methods to investigate tasks and problems within nuclear science.
  • You can transfer knowledge from basic research to applications within nuclear technology.
  • You can apply already acquired methods to new problems.
  • You can structure and present scientific data.

General competence

Through your work experience within nuclear science, you develop professional competence.

  • You have developed professional maturity and can work independently.
  • You can communicate academic and technical topics to colleagues, experts from other disciplines, and the public.
  • You can plan and manage a research project.
  • After completing your master's degree, you will have acquired values and attitudes that provide you with a basis for further development and application of the subject.
    • You understand the value of basic and applied research.
    • You are familiar with scientific requirements for verifiability and knowledge sharing.
    • You have an understanding of the ethical aspects of the role as a professional, of the subject, and its applications.
    • You can assess health, environmental, and safety aspects of your work.
