Richard Swedber professor at the Cornell University,department of Sociology is visiting the Science Studies Colloquium Series.  Before Cornell, he worked at the Department of Sociology at Stockholm University. Swedberg's main areas of interest are economic sociology, theorizing in social science, and classical sociological theories. He recently published The Art of Social Theory (2014).

He will show a short film, followed by a conversation with John Law. John Law is Professor Emeritus at Open University UK; and fellow at Center for Advanced Study in Oslo, with the research group 'Arctic Domestication in the Era of the Anthropocene'.

Ilkka Niiniluoto, professor of theoretical philosophy, University of Helsinki, and Chairman of the Philosophical Society of Finland, is visiting the Science Studies Colloquium. The lecture is open for everyone.

Niiniluoto has  been rector and then chancellor of the University of Helsinki and has played central role in Finnish politics of science and higher education. As a scholar he has made important contributions to the philosophy of science, its epistemic as well as its social and policy aspects.
