Username and password – use the IT services

Most of the IT services at UiO are connected so that you use the same username and password for all of them. Before you start studying, you will receive a username by SMS. Once you have it, you can create a password. In Password Services you create passwords and get a new one if you have forgotten it or if your account is blocked.

→ Go to Password Services

Once you have a username and password, you can use the IT services. Make sure you create a good and secure password. Please note that IT access will be withdrawn if you have not registered for the semester, or have not paid the semester fee before the deadline expires.

You must change your password once a year. You will receive a reminder of this in your UiO e-mail, and you change your password in Password Services (linked above). If you do not change your password by the deadline, your account will be blocked. You must then create a new password using a one-time code sent to you via SMS by selecting Forgotten password in Password services (linked above). If you have forgotten your password, do the same. Remember that you must have the correct telephone number registered in Studentweb to have the one-time code sent to your telephone.

Secure login to UiO – two-factor authentication

UiO introduces two-factor authentication as a security measure. This means that in some places it is not enough to log in with a username and password, you must also confirm the login with another factor, usually in an app on your mobile. You are probably already used to confirming with your mobile phone when you log in to the online bank, for example.

We recommend that you download the Microsoft Authenticator app to your mobile and get ready to use it with your UiO account.
