Course content

The Master`s thesis is an independent scientific work, completed under supervision, within one of the pharmaceutical disciplines. The thesis corresponds to one and a half semesters of full-time study, 45 credits, and is completed during the last year of the study program. Through the Master project, you will be affiliated with one of the research groups at the institute or an external research group.

Regulations concerning the Master’s thesis are specified in?Rules on Courses, Course Groups and Degrees in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

After completing the course:

Admission to the course

The master’s thesis is a compulsory part of the 5-year Master’s Programme in?Pharmacy and requires admission to the programme.

Teaching

Your work on the Master's thesis will involve an independent, time-limited research or development project under supervision. The teaching will be given in the form of:

  • Information meeting / introduction to the Master's thesis (compulsory)
  • Individual supervision
  • Research group meetings
  • Exercise in presentation / communication of the project

Examination

The examination consists of a Master's thesis, with a credit value of 45?credits, to be handed in by a deadline. This will be followed by an oral presentation, 30 minutes, of the Master’s thesis and an examination.

If the Master's thesis is given the grade F, the final Master's degree examination will not be held. In these cases, you will be contacted by the Study administration before the exam day.

If you pass the Master`s thesis, but fail the oral exam, you will have the opportunity to sit for a new oral exam.

Master's thesis that are given a grade from A to E after the final Master's degree examination cannot be reworked and submitted again.

It will also be counted as one of the three attempts to sit the exam for this course, if you sit the exam for one of the following courses: FRM5945 - Pharmacy - Master Thesis.

Language of examination

You may write your examination paper in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.

Grading scale

Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F?is a fail. Read more about?the grading system.

Explanations and appeals: Oral justification for the grading is given by the examiners in connection with the publication of the grade after the oral examination.

It is possible to complain about the written grade of the Master's thesis. In the event of a complaint, a new committee will be appointed.?In the event of a change in grade, a new oral examination will be conducted. No new oral examination will be conducted if the grade is maintained. If the Appeals committee changes the grade for the Master's thesis, a new oral presentation and examination will be held for the new committee. If the Appeals committee maintains the original grade for the thesis, a new oral examination will not be held, and there will be no changes in the grades given.
